In normal vision light rays from an image travel into the eye through the cornea, pass through the clear lens and come to a focus on the retina at the back of the eye. A cataract is the clouding of the lens of the eye that interferes with the passage of focused light to the retina.
Symptoms of Cataracts
Blurred or distorted vision
Halos or glare around bright lights
Loss of color perception (especially blues)
Loss of depth perception
Night Blindness
Eye fatigue and headaches
Cataract formation is a normal part of the aging process with over 60% of senior adults showing signs of cataracts.
A highly trained ophthalmic micro-surgeon like Dr. Kirschner can remove the cataract and replace it with a special lens implant during a short outpatient procedure. Using the right techniques cataract surgery is essentially pain free and good vision is restored shortly after surgery.
After cataract surgery most patients are able to see clearly without eye glasses for most activities. In some cases, glasses may be necessary for reading small print or doing fine detail work.
